Welcome to Southwark Parent Carer Council (PCC)
We are the parent carer forum for Southwark - and we want to achieve the best local services for children and young people aged 0-25 with disabilities/additional needs and their families. To find out more about the PCC, go to About Us
We are working with partners in education, health and social care to give families a say in the design and provision of services. Our parent reps are now involved in workstreams with Southwark Council on the new SEND Reforms - find out more here.
Thank you to all the parents/carers of children and young people with SEND who attended our free event: Empower to Achieve.
This Southwark Parent Carer Council event followed on from last year's event SEND: Inspire to Aspire, which looked at aspirations and outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
Our Empower to Achieve event took place on Thursday 17 March at Inspire, Walworth Road.
The event focused on empowering parents/carers, children and young people and their families for the future, by finding out more about changing services and your legal rights.
There was a panel of speakers and a chance to book a one-to-one consultation with representaives from Southwark Council and the Local Offer.
We will be posting a report on the event soon.

Are you a parent or carer of a child with a life-limiting or life-threatening illness? Have you been so in the past? If so, we’d like to hear from you.
Sean’s House Hospice Support, Demelza Hospice Care for Children and Goldsmiths, University of London are collaborating on a research project. They want to understand more about the experiences of families in the Lewisham and Southwark areas of London whose child has been diagnosed with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition.
They would particularly like to talk to families in the New Cross and Peckham areas; however all carers in the same boroughs and in the same situation are invited to participate. They encourage contributions from all ethnic backgrounds.
Your contribution will be confidential. The researchers want the research to help improve local support for families.
If you are interested in taking part, and would like to find out more, please email Maisie at:
Contact a Family Southwark have had their funding cut and services reduced by Southwark Council. Please see the notice from them below about how to access information and advice from now on:
Due to the changes in funding, Contact a Family Southwark is no longer able to provide information and advice. This includes help in filling out DLA forms and other funding applications, and giving advice on all issues including housing, welfare, and benefits. This service will now be provided by Citizens Advice Bureau starting October 2015.
As we already have enough caseloads to finish during the transition, we are no longer taking new referrals.
Any family looking for help with DLA or PIP (both new and renewal claims) can be referred to the Citizens Advice Bureau, and parents can only go their drops ins in Peckham or Bermondsey (see CAB website for details). Parents can also ring the adviceline on 0344 499 4134.
If families need advice on education, including Education, Health and Care Plan, please contact the SEND Information and Advice Service (used to be Parents Partnership) tel 020 7525 2886 or go one of their drop-ins; or Family Lives – 020 3131 3150.
If families need to request a care package or a carers’ assessment, they should contact the Children with Disabilities Team (020 3049 8250) or the Transitions Teams at Southwark Council.
Contact a Family will still be able to support families on specific and general SEND-related matters but details of this will be available ONLY in October 2015. It is very likely that we will continue our training, workshops, information events and social events. In addition, parents can ring our Freephone on 0808 808 355.
Thank you very much.
